Hi all
The other one we liked was really nice--had a patio and huge rooms, I am hunting for an apartment and need some input as to what you all wovld do.
There are three that my fiance (who won't be moving in for awhile), and I looked at, but we ruled one out because of the high cost and the fact that i can't walk anywhere, at all, from it.
the first one we liked had great sized rooms, a nice patio with grass right outside that I could use = my dog, and wasn't too expensive. However, they are far from any stores--like miles. Although i could walk, it would take a long time...

The next was pretty nice as well, but the second floor apartment she showed me was really far from the office with no sidewalks. nd none to other She said that she has a first floor available soon that was near the office, but she couldn't show it to me because she can only show apartments that are ready to rent. This apartment complex also has a path that goes to the croger parking lott, but there aren't any sidewalks once you get there, and none to stores/restaurants around there. The cost was more for thit one, but it was afordable.
What would you guys do? I can't decide and need to decide soon. Would you keep looking if you were me?
thanks,
Jenna

If your fiance won't be moving in for a while, could you get a studio to avoid paying for the extra space? Do the apartments you looked at have access to any transportation? How important is being able to walk places to you?

Where to live is always a personal choice. But if you have time, I'd keep looking. There is nothing worse than feeling stuck somewhere.

I would love to be able to walk places since I have a guide dog. All of the apartments I looked have bus routes that go to them, except the one near Croger, the bus stop for that is in the croger parking lott. This city is not the nicest city, but it is where I have to live. lol The problem is finding apartments in my price range in a good part of town. Also, we are getting married in September next year.

Hi. I just moved because I am a snob and want to be right outside of a dc subway station. That being said, do what feels comfortable to you. Having a dog in a small town when I first got him I can say that you really might want sidewalks around even if you can only walk a few blocks with him or her. Keep looking and good luck.

I'd also take a studio unless your lover visits and you both are going to be setting up house even before you both physically live together.
I'd find a rental agent or agency.
With this you can lay out your needs and wants, and they'll find you things that are acceptable.
Looking at a place bgefore it is ready is a bad idea, because many renters assume the condition it is in will be what it will be, so management doesn't like to show them.
If you have time use it, and don't hurry.

Hey all, thanks for your input. Unfortunately, I need to find an apartment within the next few weeks, because the agreement was that I would live with my friend for the first month here and then find an apartment. They are willing to let me stay longer, but I have decided on the apartment with sidewalks. It is reasonably-priced, and there is a bus stop to get to places like the grocery and such. I would rather have sidewalks, after thinking about it, then be able to walk to Croger but not anywhere else. The other apartments I have found, and I've looked everywhere, are not in good areas of town, so obviously I refuse to live there. lol.

Damn, it looks like I showed up a little too late to add useful advice here. I was going to suggest getting a small place just for you, saving yourself money rather than living in and paying for a place that's too big for just you but large enough for your fiance when he comes net year.
I was also going to ask you how easy it would be to get route training for you and your dog if you picked in a slightly less-than-familiar area.
At the least, I hope your place has no bugs and no obvious flaws that are going to make it a trial to live in. I've been apartment-hunting a couple of times, and it's sometimes a rather trying business.

Thanks for the advice. :) I thought of getting a smaller place, but don't know when my fiance will find a job down here so don't know when he will be moving in. I do not know the area, or town, but I have O & M training set up and plus my GDB rep is coming in the beginning of January. The person that lives in the apartment now is one of the mannagers who is being relocated to a different complex mannaged by this rental agency, so it should be clean. I indirectly asked about it and the lady I ta2ked too said she is clean.
